BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Merritt Island Mustangs baseball team fell to Belen Jesuit in Game 1 of Regional Semifinal, but rose to the occasion in Game 2 when senior third basemen, Braden Rouleau, delivered in the clutch when he nailed a walk-off hit for the Mustangs to win 4-3 in a comeback thriller.

The Mustangs will look to return to the Regional Finals as they did last year, Thursday, May 1 at 7 p.m. in Miami.

The winner of game 3 will face American Heritage with a trip to the Final Four at stake.

After an impressive start by Frankie Aleman, senior pitcher for Belen Jesuit, Merritt Island was unable to gain any momentum in the early innings.

The Mustangs trailed 3-0 going into the bottom of the fourth inning when Connor Hurd was able to get the Mustangs on the board with an RBI single.

The Mustangs threatened to do more damage, but good pitching and fielding by the Wolverines got them out of danger.

Merritt Island’s Shane Patrick was tremendous on the mound for the Mustangs after striking out 11 batters and not allowing any more runs past the third inning. Entering the fifth, Sophomore Liam Miller came up huge driving in another run for the Mustangs as they cut their deficit to just one run with two innings remaining.

Max Aspuru took over for Aleman on the mound for the Wolverines and pitched well, but in the bottom of the seventh, with just three outs left in their season, the Mustangs rallied. Liam Miller drove in a massive RBI double to tie the game, and senior Braeden Rouleau would be the savior as his walk-off single sends the Mustangs to a rubber match at Belen Jesuit Thursday, May 1 at 7 P.M.

Belen Jesuit defeated Eau Gallie in Game 3 of the Regional quarterfinals just a week ago, but Merritt Island heads to Miami with the momentum on their side as they look to keep their season alive.
