BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Zane Garcia of the Friday Night Locker Room and Space Coast Daily takes a look at the Fall sports season, including football, volleyball, bowling, swimming, cross country, and golf.

FOOTBALL

Eau Gallie’s been the best of FHSAA Brevard teams

There have been many storylines of the football season, new coaches, surprising plays, but no true dominance. Year in and year out, we have seen the Cocoa Tigers reign supreme over Brevard County football, but that has not been the case this season.

Satellite’s posted the best record of SSAA Brevard teams, Eau Gallie’s been the best of FHSAA Brevard teams, and Merritt Island Christian has been dominant in 8-Man football once again.

Current top 8 rankings stand as:

1. Eau Gallie

2. Merritt Island

3. Cocoa

4. Melbourne

5. Titusville

6. Viera

7. Heritage

8. Holy Trinity

VOLLEYBALL

The biggest story through the season was Merritt Island’s head coach, Angie Patrick, picking up win No. 500 in her coaching career.

The Volleyball season is coming to an end, but the Merritt Island Mustangs have ruled it. Posting a 23-2 record, they are currently ranked within the top 25 teams in the state of Florida. Holy Trinity has been the only team in Brevard County to give the Mustangs a run for their money in a 3-2 battle.

Edgewood is the runner-up in the county this year, with an 18-3 record. They have been excellent all season long. Satellite, Holy Trinity, and Astronaut have had very respectable seasons throughout as well.

BOWLING

The Astronaut High boys took home the Cape Coast Conference title.

The Brevard County bowling season has been exciting as usual. It is always a mystery which team will emerge as one of the best around the county. Astronaut boys and Heritage girls took home the Cape Coast Conference titles this season.

At the same time, last years Breakfast of Champions award recipients, Lincoln Moyer (Astronaut) and Kailani Hannum (Melbourne) finished no. 1 in the individual competitions.

Several teams will be in the hunt for a potential FHSAA state title, and numerous bowlers will contend for individual titles.

SWIMMING

Satellite boys and girls both took home the Cape Coast Conference championships just over a week ago.

Satellite boys and girls both took home the Cape Coast Conference championships just over a week ago. Although the Scorpions took both the boys’ and girls’ titles home, many other teams have excelled throughout the season.

Titusville, Melbourne, and Viera have performed well. Brady Zink of the Viera Hawks has put together another excellent swim season, as has Melbourne’s Sawyer Hackett.

CROSS COUNTRY

Holy Trinity’s boys and girls cross country team finished at the top of the Spanish River meet.

Holy Trinity’s Evan Spreitzer, who was a Breakfast of Champions award recipient a year ago, has led the county with the best time so far this season. Today, October 15, is the Cape Coast Conference meet, as every team in Brevard is on the hunt for the title.

Satellite’s girls’ cross country team has posted the top times in the county in several different cross country meets. The Holy Trinity and Viera boys have both been very successful in cross-country meets as well.

GOLF

Viera Hawks have dominated again this season, winning the Cape Coast Conference championship.

After a state championship a year ago, the Viera Hawks have dominated again this season, winning the Cape Coast Conference championship. The Viera girls did not win the state championship a season ago, but just as the boys did, the Hawk girls won the 2025 Cape Coast Conference title.

We have also seen some tremendous shots. Landen Hamed of Astronaut High School shot a hole-in-one at the Habitat in Grant during the Cape Coast Conference tournament.
