BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Construction at the Brevard Veterans Memorial Amphitheatre Park & Plaza continued to progress throughout September, even with several rain and lightning delays, according to a project update from the Veterans Memorial Center.

Work on the amphitheater and concession buildings advanced with interior buildouts, while Florida Power & Light completed electrical connections at the site. Irrigation trenching was also finished, marking a key step toward final landscaping.

Contractor Ivey rebuilt sidewalk connections in time to host the first JROTC 5K/Raider Challenge on September 27 — the first event to use portions of the improved park area.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is expected to be announced by mid-October, signaling the project’s transition toward public opening.

Progress was also reported on park amenities. Four new benches were ordered in September, with installations taking place along Sykes Creek behind Gray Hall and in the Allied Monuments section. Additional bench orders are anticipated as the park nears completion.

The plaza and paver installations continued as well, with Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) pavers set in place and new brick orders arriving. CSPRAY maintained its quarterly repainting and maintenance schedule across the plaza, ensuring the area remains in top condition.

Officials said momentum remains strong heading into 2026 as the project moves closer to completion.

With elections taking place this month, the Veterans Memorial Center is also seeking one to two volunteers to join the Park/Plaza Committee and assist with the ongoing development and coordination of the site.
