BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is moving forward with plans to construct a $20 million regional training complex near the Brevard County Government Center in Viera.

The 45,000-square-foot complex will be built on county-owned land off Judge Fran Jamieson Way, between the Government Center and the Florida Department of Health offices.

The county, which has committed the $2.85 million property for the project, will retain ownership of the building. Construction is slated to begin in January 2026, with completion expected by May 2027.

The facility will serve as a hub for advanced law enforcement training and house the sheriff’s West Precinct operations.

To help fund the project, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Department officials have submitted a $10 million request to the Florida Legislature. House Majority Leader Tyler Sirois and Senate Majority Leader Jim Boyd are sponsoring the request.

According to Brevard County Undersheriff Doug Waller, the proposed training center will provide specialized instruction in areas such as crisis management, de-escalation tactics, human trafficking awareness, and legal issues.

Waller said the facility will serve multiple counties, including Brevard, Indian River, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Volusia.

“This will give us an opportunity to develop officers from around the state and ensure they receive the best possible training,” said Waller.

Brevard County Sheriff’s Department officials also highlighted the center’s role in strengthening partnerships between local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

By facilitating collaboration and knowledge-sharing, the facility aims to improve regional emergency response capabilities.

Beyond law enforcement training, the center is expected to provide community engagement opportunities, including citizen workshops, open houses, and educational programs for youth interested in law enforcement careers. The facility will also be a place where the public can gain insight into police training methods through tours and informational sessions.

Waller said the new training complex is part of BCSO’s broader effort to upgrade its facilities. This effort also includes improvements to the county jail work farm complex and the recent addition of an emergency animal hospital at the BCSO Animal Care Center near Melbourne.
