It was an incredible weekend for Team Viera as we participated on September 27 in The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation ROAD HOCKEY TO CONQUER CANCER tournament in Vaughan, Ontario.

This amazing event, recognized as the world’s largest road hockey tournament, featured over 140 teams and 1,500 players who came together during its 14th annual gathering to raise a Guinness World Record $3.2 million for cancer research at one of the top 5 cancer research centers globally.

I was proud to return for the fourth consecutive year as the Captain of Team Viera, which ranked as the 28th top fundraising team—a heartfelt thank you to my amazing teammates for their incredible spirit and dedication.

Special shoutouts to every one of these teammates and friends including Assistant Captain Taylor Accursi, former Captain of the Buffalo Beauts; Jillian Moffatt, former goaltender for Almtuna IS-Sweden; professional wrestler Andrea Benoit, aka NOVA; second pick in the 1991 National Hockey League Supplemental Draft and Founder of Hockey Extreme David Trombley; and my former Pierre Laporte elementary school classmates Patrick Kerr, Claude Parrell, and Christopher Henley.

We also had Jerry Fraelic, a fellow teacher of Patrick and Chris at Loyola Secondary School, along with the outstanding Jorden Connor in goal. In addition, we all greatly appreciated Courtney Carrescia from Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Partnership taking care of us between games in the Longo’s VIP Locker Room.

I am also grateful to Andrew Jackson and Bob Clarke at Jackson Events Inc. for their significant contributions to this major event.

I also had the honor of playing in the Celebrities vs. Fundraisers game as the 12th top fundraiser in the tournament. It was fantastic to compete against many NHL Alumni, women’s professional hockey players, and other celebrities.

This tournament embodied the spirit of fighting cancer in our lifetime.

The critical work and groundbreaking research performed by the The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation helps individuals, families, and communities around the world, including our own here in Viera on Florida’s Space Coast.

A big thank you to the Foundation’s Steve Merker, Brendan Ennis, and Jordan Harding for outdoing themselves again this year. Let’s continue to #CarryTheFire and #GameOnCancer!
