annual event lets Maestro Mark Nelson combine classical music and storytelling

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Community Orchestra goes to the movies on Saturday, November 16, with entertaining concerts at noon and 2 p.m.
The annual event lets Maestro Mark Nelson combine his two favorite things: classical music and storytelling! Music Makers of Tomorrow, a free concert for children at Premiere Theaters Oaks 10, will feature a live orchestral performance designed to introduce youngsters to the world of classical music and the various instruments of the orchestra.
Young audience members will hear Benjamin Britten’s “The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, along with “Tubby the Tuba” by George Kleinsinger.
The Melbourne Community Orchestra’s principal tuba player, Eric Lee, will be featured during “Tubby” and both works will be narrated by Paxton Barefield and accompanied by cartoons on the silver screen. Additional fun activities are planned for the youngsters at the theater located at 1800 W.
Hibiscus Boulevard in Melbourne, including an instrument petting zoo — where kids can hold different instruments and give them a try. Admission to Music Makers of Tomorrow is free and seating is limited, so attendees of every age are encouraged to arrive early for the one-hour musical experience.
Melbourne Community Orchestra Conductor, Mark Nelson, is delighted to bring his musicians to the Oaks 10 for the 3rd Annual Music Makers of Tomorrow event. Families with children of all ages are welcome, although the program is particularly aimed at those in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade.
“Being an educator for over 40 years, I’ve seen the positive change music can make in students’ lives,” said Nelson. “We are especially focused on bringing orchestral music to children who are in private or home schools, as they don’t always get the opportunity to participate in musical enrichment programs.”
The educational concert for children will introduce youngsters to orchestral music and instruments, with the goal of educating and inspire the next generation of musicians through classical music performance.
The Melbourne Community Orchestra plans to continue the annual family outreach event each season. Call 321-285-6724 or visit www.MCOrchestra.org for more information or to sign up for concert alerts.
