BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Community Orchestra will take an entertaining look at opposing forces during Heroes vs Villains: A Symphonic Battle of Good & Evil, a pair of concerts on Wednesday and Thursday, October 16 and 17.
The 7:00 p.m. concerts will be held at the Melbourne Auditorium, located at 625 Hibiscus Boulevard in Melbourne.
The nonprofit orchestra’s second concert of the 2024-25 season will take the audience on an exhilarating ride through epic battles and moral struggles.
From classical myths to modern sagas, this concert will highlight the eternal conflict through powerful, sometimes “scary” music.
The audience will hear works by John Williams, Richard Wagner, Igor Stravinsky, J.S. Bach, and more. Franz Liszt’s Totentanz (Dance of the Dead) a work for solo piano and orchestra, will be performed by 16-year-old Paul Wubbena.
The Cape Canaveral pianist is an 11th grader at Edgewood Junior/Senior High School, where he is a standout in his school’s music program.
A veteran of music camps, Paul played 22 percussion instruments for the pit orchestra in Brevard County’s Summer Fine Arts Theater Workshop’s 2024 production of Shrek: The Musical. A pre-concert woodwind quintet will entertain the gathering crowd for Heroes vs Villains, beginning at 6:15 p.m.

To add to the fun, orchestra members will be dressed as their favorite heroes and villains, and concertgoers are encouraged to do the same.
Admission to Heroes vs Villains and all Melbourne Community Orchestra concerts is free. The 65-member group conducted by Mark Nelson is the Orchestra in Residence for the City of Melbourne.
Heroes vs Villains will be the ultimate musical boxing match, under the baton of Maestro Mark Nelson.
“This concert is filled with really exciting music,” said Dr. Nelson. “And for extra fun, we’re pitting each heroic piece against a villainous work — and the audience will decide the winner of the round when the bell rings.”
The non-profit Melbourne Community Orchestra is an all-volunteer orchestra, that performs seven sets of free concerts each Season. Call 321-285-6724 or visit MCOrchestra.org for more information or to sign up for concert alerts.
