Melbourne Community Orchestra Ends Season with Concert of Americana June 11-12

The Melbourne Community Orchestra will travel from sea to shining sea during An American Road Trip, a pair of concerts on June 11 and 12.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Community Orchestra will travel from sea to shining sea during An American Road Trip, a pair of concerts on June 11 and 12.

The 7 p.m. concerts will be held at the Melbourne Auditorium at 625 Hibiscus Boulevard in Melbourne.

The nonprofit orchestra’s final concert of the season will celebrate the rich fabric of American life with a host of stirring selections.

The audience will hear John Philip Sousa’s “Washington Post March,” Scott Joplin’s “The Entertainer” and John Williams’ evocative main theme from the Oliver Stone film, Born on the 4th of July.

The program also includes the groundbreaking Afro-American Symphony by William Grant Stills and William Prince’s Concertino for Jazz and Legit Clarinets, a unique blend of jazz and classical elements, featuring clarinet soloists from the orchestra.

The Melbourne Community Orchestra will travel from sea to shining sea during An American Road Trip, a pair of concerts on June 11 and 12.

A pre-show of onstage musical performers will entertain the gathering crowd, beginning at 6:15 PM. Admission to An American Road Trip and all Melbourne Community Orchestra concerts is free. The 65-member group conducted by Mark Nelson is the Orchestra in Residence for the City of Melbourne.

An American Road Trip is sure to delight with music that is uniquely American. Melbourne Community Orchestra General Manager, Noël Barefield, is the group’s Principal Flute and Piccolo player.

“This concert is a celebration of America through the music of its sons and daughters,” said Ms. Barefield. “The pieces are all quite different from each other and it gives us a chance to reflect on what it means to be American.”

The non-profit Melbourne Community Orchestra is an all-volunteer orchestra, that performing seven sets of free concerts each Season.
