Indian River City, Merritt Island notch wins

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – It’s that time of year again. The Florida District 22 All-Stars is underway with the 8/9/10 Baseball Division in action at Port St. John Little League’s fields of Space Coast Communities Sports Complex.
On Field 1
Port St. John Little League was the visiting team against the All-Stars from Merritt Island Little League. Port’s All-Stars got on the board in the top of the first inning after Jace Fowler walked and came home on some errors. Merritt Island flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 5-2.
The most significant blow in the inning was a single by MI Little League’s Hudson Esposito that drove in two.
MI Little League added two more runs in the second after scoring on a passed ball. MI Little League added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning following a PSJ error and a walk by Noah Vazquez. Fowler started on the hill for PSJ, allowing eight hits and nine runs (five earned) over two and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking three.
Samuel Day took the hill first for MI Little League and gave up two hits and three runs (one earned) over two and one-third innings, striking out six and walking five. Mason Partridge and John Coakley each collected hits for PSJ while Fowler, Coakley, and Ace Ellershaw collected RBIs.
But Merritt Island would dominate with 11 hits in the game. Esposito, Jackson Wartell, and Henry Deranjo each collected two hits while Esposito and Ethan Weber each drove in two runs and Weber stole two bases in Merritt Island’s 11-3 win.
Over on Field 2
The visitors from Indian River City Little League met Mims Little League. IRC got on the board in the top of the first inning after Mims committed an error, Ryan Plunkett singled to right field, Brandon Udo walked, and Rylan Wyatt grounded out, each scoring runs.
Westin Primmer grounded out, which helped Mims tie the game at four in the bottom of the second. But, IRC took command of the game in the top of the third, scoring six runs on two hits to take a 10-4 lead.
The biggest move in the inning was a ground out by Caiden O’Connor that drove in two for IRC. Mims started the game with Eli Lanthorne on the mound, surrendering one hit and five runs (two earned) over two innings, while striking out three and walking five.
Plunkett stepped on the hill first for IRC and gave up six hits and six runs (four earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking two. Lanthorne and Primmer each drove in two runs for Mims.
Plunkett led IRC’s offense with two hits in three at-bats. O’Connor, Plunkett, and Waylon Mack-Weller each drove in two runs for IRC, and Bryson English led IRC with three walks. Even with eight hits to IRC’s six, Mims couldn’t stop IRC’s 14-8 victory.
