BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA — Indian River Colony Club in Viera will welcome Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivy and bloodhound Saint, along with the Mounted Posse Patrol and Sheriff’s Department vehicles, for a neighborhood Dusk Parade in advance of Independence Day, on Thursday, July 3, 8 p.m.
The mounted officers and Sheriff’s vehicles will gather at 8 p.m. at the Indian River Colony At Ease Club, located at 1936 Freedom Drive, Melbourne, before the parade commences at approximately 8:25 p.m.
Residents in the 55+ golf neighborhood, with nearly 800 homes, have been encouraged to line the parade route in their driveways as vehicles and deputies on horseback pass by. Eighty percent of Indian River Colony Club residents are military veterans.
Call Ronnie McMahon for authorized access to the gated community at 954-648-0306.
Organized in 2016, the Mounted Posse Patrol is composed of volunteers and reserve deputies who are experienced with horses and eager to help in the community. The group works with the Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol Unit on community-related events such as parades and also helps with searches such as for missing persons.
To qualify for the Mounted Posse, those interested must be at least 18 years old, own a horse, complete an application and an interview and pass a background check. Applicants who make it through this process will attend a rigorous basic training to learn search techniques, team formations and how to make it past obstacles.

Viera’s very first neighborhood, Indian River Colony Club, was initially conceived as a retirement destination for military retirees. Still predominantly a haven for military veterans, IRCC maintains a culture centered on service to others.
IRCC is a gated golf course community of nearly 800 homes on 453 acres in Viera, owned entirely by its membership.
“The Place Patriots Call Home” features 24-hour gated security, a generous maintenance package, and a full complement of newly renovated, 100% debt-free resort-style amenities for active adults aged 55 and over, including an 18-hole, par-72 private golf course designed by acclaimed Florida golf course architect Gordon G. Lewis.
Social memberships are available for those who live off-site but wish to enjoy the amenities and lifestyle. The patriotic neighborhood was named one of the 2018 Top 20 Golf Communities in North America by Golf Course Home Network.
