BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Officer Jason Dowty joined the City of Cocoa as a police officer trainee, earning a full salary while completing the police academy, an opportunity available to recruits who want to begin their law enforcement careers with the Cocoa Police Department.

Before pursuing policing, Dowty worked briefly in computer information technology, but soon realized his true calling was serving his hometown community.

After meeting several Cocoa police officers, he was inspired by their passion and professionalism and decided to make the career change.

A Cocoa native, Dowty grew up as an only child in a family that fostered 16 children, all of whom he considers siblings.
