BREVARD COUNTY, TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Under the bright Friday night lights, one of Brevard County’s most storied rivalries reached its most inspiring chapter yet.
The Titusville High School Terriers stormed to a dominant 37-3 victory over the Astronaut High School War Eagles, but the true story wasn’t just about touchdowns and tackles – it was about how two fierce rivals found friendship by the final whistle.
For decades, Titusville and Astronaut have been divided by little more than a few miles—and a whole lot of school pride.
Every year, their matchup draws crowds that fill the stands, generations deep with alumni who remember the glory days of past battles.
And this year, the stakes felt higher than ever, with both teams entering the game 5-5 and determined to close their seasons with pride.

The War Eagles struck first. Astronaut’s Connor Lamothe nailed a 38-yard field goal in the first quarter, putting Astronaut ahead 3-0 and sending their fans into a frenzy. But that early spark only ignited the fire in the Terriers.
In the second quarter, Camari Jackson broke loose for a 19-yard touchdown run, putting Titusville on the board.
The momentum kept building – Alex Christian punched in another score from 5 yards out, and just before halftime, quarterback William Billingsley connected with Christian again on a stunning 45-yard touchdown pass.
The crowd erupted as Titusville surged ahead 20-3 going into the break.

When the teams returned to the field, the Terriers showed no signs of slowing down. Jackson hauled in a 22-yard touchdown catch from Billingsley in the third quarter, followed by a 36-yard field goal from Eli Russell to push the score to 30-3.
In the fourth quarter, Billingsley found his brother, Bryan Billingsley, for a 5-yard touchdown that sealed the 37-3 victory – and the bragging rights.
But what happened after the game was even more meaningful than the win.
As the final seconds ticked away, the roar of competition gave way to something more profound. Players from both sidelines – some friends off the field, some meeting as rivals for the first time – gathered at midfield.
The handshake line became a moment of unity. Smiles replaced scowls, and for the first time in years, it felt like the rivalry had evolved into something greater.
“These games are always emotional,” said Titusville quarterback William Billingsley. “We want to win – they want to win. But when the final whistle blows, we’re all part of the same community. Tonight, we proved that respect can be just as strong as rivalry.”

Astronaut’s kicker Connor Lamothe echoed that sentiment, saying, “We gave it everything we had out there. They played a great game. But at the end of the day, this is what football’s all about – pushing each other to be better.”
The fans in the stands felt it too. By the time the teams walked off the field, the cheers weren’t divided by color or mascot—they were one unified roar celebrating heart, effort, and mutual respect.
For the Titusville Terriers, the win capped off a successful season at 6-5, while Astronaut ended its campaign with a 5-6 record—but with heads held high and friendships forged through the fire of competition.
In a town where football Fridays have long drawn a line between the Terriers and War Eagles, this game reminded everyone that sometimes, the fiercest rivals can become the strongest allies.
