ORLANDO, FLORIDA — The sun was rising over Orlando’s Orange County Sheriff’s Office Range last Sunday, November 2, as law-enforcement tactical teams from across the globe, including the Melbourne Police Department, began arriving for the 2025 SWAT Round‑Up International.

For five days, officers tested their skills under some of the most intense, high-pressure scenarios imaginable—dynamic entries, precision shooting, and split-second decision-making.

Among the elite competitors, the Melbourne Police Department SWAT Team made its presence known.

Clad in tactical gear and moving with practiced precision, the team joined colleagues from across the country and around the world for a week of rigorous training, competition, and collaboration.

“Proud to have our team representing Melbourne and sharpening their skills alongside the best,” said a department spokesperson.

The Melbourne SWAT Team is no stranger to high-stakes operations.

As part of MPD’s specialized Tactical Operations unit, the team handles high-risk warrants, counter-narcotics assignments, and critical incidents, often working in partnership with agencies such as the DEA and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Their commitment to safety, precision, and professionalism is evident not only in their daily operations but in the way they prepare for competitions like this one.

Throughout the week, the Melbourne officers faced a series of demanding challenges designed to simulate real-world scenarios. From hostage rescues to obstacle-laden marksmanship courses, each exercise tested the team’s coordination, communication, and ability to remain calm under pressure.

The experience offered a rare opportunity to observe and learn from some of the world’s best tactical minds, fostering skills and strategies that could be applied back home in Melbourne.

But the week wasn’t just about competition. It was also a chance for officers to build relationships with their peers, exchange knowledge, and explore the latest in tactical technology.

Vendors from around the globe showcased cutting-edge equipment. At the same time, instructors led advanced training sessions—making the SWAT Round‑Up International both a testing ground and a classroom for elite law enforcement.

For the people of Melbourne, the team’s participation in the international event is a reassuring sign. It demonstrates a department that invests in its people, in advanced training, and in the tools needed to keep the community safe. Beyond medals and rankings, the experience equips officers with refined skills, stronger teamwork, and lessons learned that can make a real difference on the streets.

As the week drew to a close on Friday, the Melbourne SWAT Team returned home with new knowledge, strengthened camaraderie, and a renewed commitment to excellence—a testament to the skill, dedication, and professionalism that defines the Melbourne Police Department.
