BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – We had our best Tourist Development Tax (TDT) collections ever this summer, with June through August totaling nearly $6.2 million, a 0.4% increase over the prior summer.
For the year, we are at $24.33 million, up 3% over the same time last year.
August Tourist Development Tax collections have come in at $1.770 million – a 4% decrease compared to last year’s August ($1.843 million) and a 3.7% increase compared to the August 2023 number of $2.214 million.
Looking at TDT by type, hotels represented 67% of the total.
Hotel TDT for the month was over $1.19 million, down 5.8% from the prior year. Vacation rentals were at 31% of TDT for the month. Vacation rental revenue for the month was $548k, down 1.6% from the prior year.
In terms of hotel/motel revenue by city, Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral were at 37% of the total for the month, and Melbourne and the Beaches were at 25% as a percentage of the total.
Looking ahead, September is tracking slightly behind last year’s September. If September comes in lower than last year, then we will just miss breaking through the $26 million mark.
However, we are still on track to beat last fiscal year and the 2022-23 fiscal year, when we had our best year ever of $25.54 million.
